The Chicago Cubs are closing in on signing 20-year-old Brander Guevara, a promising right-handed pitcher from Cuba.

Guevara brings a strong arm and potential to the Cubs organization, adding to the growing pool of power arms in their minor league system.

He gained attention as a 15-year-old at the U-15 World Cup tournament when he showcased his impressive fastball, reaching 90 mph on the radar gun. While Guevara may not be classified as a flame-thrower, reports suggest that he has the potential to consistently touch 93-94 mph with his fastball.

According to an MLB.com scouting report from January 2022, Guevara is regarded as a potential starting pitcher with solid mechanics, durable arm action, and promising talent.

There is optimism that with the Cubs' renowned pitching development program, Guevara's delivery could be fine-tuned to increase his velocity.

Once the signing of Guevara is official, he is likely to begin his journey in the Arizona Complex League this summer. Depending on his progress and health, there is a possibility that he could advance to affiliated ball in the lower minor leagues by the end of the 2023 season.

Guevara's solid mechanics and potential for increased velocity make him an intriguing addition to the Cubs' organization.
