David Ross on Miguel Amaya being back with the Cubs

by - Senior Editor -

The future is bright at the catcher position for the Chicago Cubs.

24-year-old backstop Miguel Amaya has been called up from Triple-A Iowa and will bat DH Sunday night against the San Diego Padres.

Cubs manager David Ross hopes that Amaya will help them win some ballgames.

"Miggy earned the ability to get another call-up with how he performed last time," Ross said.

"He did a really nice job of coming in and proving what we believed for a long time. He’s well on his way to being an everyday big leaguer, and it's just another opportunity that presented itself for him to come in and help us win ballgames."

In 28 games in the minors this season, Amaya has hit .294 with a .996 OPS.

He is the Cubs' 14th-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
