Hector Rondon is in his fourth season with the Cubs and has amassed 59 saves in the past two years since emerging as the team's closer in 2014 ... was selected by Chicago in the major league portion of the 2012 Rule 5 Draft after he spent the first eight seasons of his pro career in the Cleveland Indians system. With a career-high 30 saves and a 1.67 ERA in 2015, became just the second pitcher in club history to save 30 games with a 1.67 ERA or lower (Bruce Sutter in 1977, 31 saves and 1.34 ERA). Is 12-9 with a 2.82 ERA (59 ER/188.0 IP) and 59 saves in 181 relief appearances since making his major league debut with Chicago in 2013. Is 36-36 with a 3.88 ERA (253 ER/587.0 IP) in 120 minor league games, all but seven as a starter … has struck out 526 while walking 121. Underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, August 25, 2010 ... had a second procedure in December of 2011 to repair an elbow fracture … missed most of the 2011 and 2012 seasons recovering from the injuries. Made the Eastern League All-Star team while earning honors as Cleveland's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2009. In 2008, he was ranked as the ninth-best prospect in the Carolina League by Baseball America … made the Carolina League All-Star team that season. Originally signed by Cleveland as a non-drafted free agent, August 3, 2004.
