Jake signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in April of 2016 and spent most of last season with Triple-A Iowa before joining the Cubs in September ... he has gone 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA (21 ER/50.1 IP) in 24 games (three starts) across parts of three big league seasons with Houston (2014-15) and the Cubs (2016) ... Made his major league debut with Houston in 2014, pitching in 17 games (two starts) ... in his 15 relief outings, he posted a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP) with 17 strikeouts ... Has gone 50-50 with a 4.11 ERA (383 ER/838.0 IP) in 170 minor league games across seven seasons ... Was named a Texas League All-Star in 2013 with Double-A Corpus Christi and a California League All-Star in 2011 with Single-A Lancaster ... was named the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2011 ... Entered the 2012 season ranked by Baseball America as having the "Best Control" in the Astros system ... Was drafted by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2010 Draft out of North Carolina State University ... he went 8-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) his senior season of 2010 ... was teammates with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson ... Graduated from North Gaston High School in North Carolina where he was named First-Team All-State by the North Carolina High School Coaches Association and co-MVP of the Big South 3-A/4-A Conference ...
