Cubs News: Russell's take on trade rumors involving Manny Machado

by - Senior Editor -

The constant trade rumors with Manny Machado to the Cubs can be tiring especially if you are occupying the starting shortstop spot for the Chicago Cubs.

Addison Russell started the season off slow as trade rumors swirled but appears to be hitting his stride with the weather warming up as he is batting .296 in his last seven games including a four hit night on Friday against the Reds.

He was asked Saturday about his opinion on the on-going trade rumors of Machado to the Cubs.

"I really don’t pay attention to all that,” Russell said to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "I like this team. I like this organization. I like this ball club."

However, Russell knows that baseball is a big-time business as he has been through a trade already once in his young career.

"I’ve been in a trade once," Russell said. "The Cubs have stuck with me when I went through a lot of things. It would be sad if I ever had to leave, but I’m very thankful to the Cubs for giving me an opportunity to play. As far as trade rumors, if it happens, it happens; I don’t pay them any attention. The only time when I even hear about them is the media bringing it up to me."

The Cubs would like to keep Russell if he can get his bat going as he is under player control for three more seasons.

For the season, he is batting .262 with a homer and 10 RBIs.
