Hot Corner 2/19

I continue to be shocked by Baez. He says he wants to be a leader on the team and for his example he uses the fact he doesn't run hard to first base all the time. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him to keep quiet before he really says something goofy.

I wrote about this last year but it bears repeating. KB hurt his shoulder sliding headfirst into 1st base. He has hurt his fingers, wrist, and other parts of his body sliding headfirst. STOP DOING IT THEN! Geez, how many times does he need to get hurt before someone slaps him upside the head and makes him stop?

Always good stuff in the Hot Corner.

It's probably one of those things that will get learned over time kinda like not bowling over the catcher at home for players anymore.

Eventually, KB will forget about going headfirst after it becomes second nature probably.

I'm not a big fan of sliding into first, though it can be exciting. Injuries aren't worth it though.

Yea...hardly ever seen that work in favor of the runner. If it did, all Olympic sprinters would do it.

I do get it if there is an errant throw and someone trying to tag you.

I've always viewed sliding as a way to avoid being tagged. Obviously, running from the plate to first is no different than a "force" situation. Like you said Tony, if there is an errant throw, I understand, but they say sliding actually slows a runner down.
