Jameson Taillon (13-9, 3.24) vs. Cole Hamels (4-1, 2.42)

First game of four-game set. Cubs have their last seven games at home. Pirates already eliminated from playoff contention. Cubs clinging to 2.5-game lead atop NL Central.

Hamels has given up 29 HR (with TEX & CHI combined) this season. That's a season high for him. His previous high was 28.

Sweet swing from Hamels on homer. He joins Lester as Cubs starters who have gone yard this year. He cuts the damage caused by Cervelli's dinger in half.

M5 — Another dominant inning from Hamels. Aside from 1 bad pitch on Cervelli's HR, Hamels has been great. Meanwhile, only a little over an hour in, this game is already at the halfway point.

F — Cubs pick up with their weird trend of scoring exclusively on solo shots against the Pirates. Pitiful offensive performance, considering the playoff implications. Cubs leave 14 stranded on base. Their only run comes on a HR by a pitcher.
