Arrieta thinks Cubs still have the best rotation in baseball

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta got the win on Saturday night despite giving up five runs (4 earned) on eight hits over six innings against the Reds. He leads the National League in wins with three and currently sixth in strikeouts with 29. He is also sporting a decent 3.65 ERA for the season and will make his next start on Friday against the Boston Red Sox.

However, the team's starting pitcher ERA is up to 4.00 through 17 games with some of the reliable starters getting rocked hard early in the season. Arrieta says there is no reason to be alarmed and they are still the best in the majors.

"I still think we're at the top," Arrieta in Saturday's post-game interviews. "I don't think you can say otherwise just because of the results. If you strictly go by the numbers, yeah, it might not be the case. There have been a couple mistakes here and there, but we've thrown the ball well."

Arrieta knows its all about staying healthy and getting the win for the Cubs.

"It's about being able to manage the game at that point and still give it your best effort to try to get the job done," Arrieta said. "Regardless of the four runs in the first, I knew we were going to scratch for a few. I wanted to get as deep as possible."
