Cubs News: Ben Zobrist still out with injury

by - Senior Editor -

Veteran outfielder Ben Zobrist has yet to be full go at Cubs Spring Training with a back issue that started acting up a week before the start of camp.

"It’s spring training so there’s a lot less pressure right now to make sure I’m playing in games when we’ve just started games in spring training," Zobrist told the media on Saturday. "I just need to make sure I'm completely healthy before we start doing 100 percent activity out there and that's all it is."

Zobrist reiterated that he feels really good and is not experiencing any pain but doesn't want to push it. He knows as a veteran that he doesn't need a lot of spring at-bats to get ready for the season so hopefully, he will be good to go soon.

The 36-year old had his worst year since 2008 in only 128 games last season with a .232 average with 12 homers, 50 RBI, and .318 on-base percentage.

In 2016, Zobrist batted .272 with 18 homers, 76 RBI, and .386 on-base percentage. He was named the MVP of the 2016 World Series and helped the Cubs win their first title since 1908.

For his career, he is a .263 hitter with 157 home runs, 693 RBI, and .355 on-base percentage.
