Cubs targeting four-time All-Star pitcher

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are surging after winning six straight games out of the All-Star break. However, Theo Epstein won't give up the opportunity to make his team better as he is eyeing several different pitchers to help out his tired rotation.

According to multiple reports including MLB.com, the Cubs are very interested in Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish. The Rangers have lost five straight games and will more than likely be sellers before the trade deadline.

This would be an ideal rental for the Cubs because he will be a free agent after the 2017 season. This move could replace Mike Montgomery in the starting rotation and put him back in his more effective reliever role. The Cubs starters would have a projection of Jon Lester, Jose Quintana, Jake Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, and Yu Darvish.

It always depends on the cost of the prospects but it would be an attractive rotation for the remainder of the season.

In 2017 through 20 starts, Darvish has a 6-8 record in 125 innings with 3.45 ERA, 131 strikeouts, and 1.14 WHIP. He is currently fifth in the American League in both innings pitched (125) and strikeouts (131).

For his major league career, the 30-year old sports a 52-38 record with an impressive 3.32 ERA with 943 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP.
