Cubs News: Javier Baez injury update |
CHICAGO — On the same afternoon that Chicago Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel was predictably activated off the injured list, Cubs shortstop
Javier Baez was unpredictably cleared for "light" baseball activities. Baez, who suffered a hairline fracture in his left thumb earlier this month, was reexamined by a hand specialist on Thursday and received positive news.
Baez was expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, but the doctor cleared Baez for hitting off a tee and also cleared him for potentially pinch running for the Cubs. For now, Baez will wear a protective glove on his left hand, and that would enable him to pinch run as soon as Thursday's game at Wrigley Field against the St. Louis Cardinals. Javy Baez had re-check with hand specialist. Has been cleared for light baseball activities. Doing tee work. Pinch-running is a possibility as soon as tonight. Baez was reexamined by doc and cleared for “light” baseball activity. Hitting off a tee. Team says pinch running duty has been approved (with protective glove/inpenetrable bubble/kryptonite shell) on injured hand)
