Cubs News: Matheny reportedly texted Fowler about losing his leadoff job

The dramatic feud between the St. Louis Cardinals management and veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler is like a train wreck that you can't look away from.

A recent report by the Athletic is that Fowler and Cardinals manager Mike Matheny have not spoken with each other in months. The latest news from St. Louis beat reporter Bernie Miklasz is that the relationship first went haywire after Matheny didn't even speak to Dexter Fowler in person before removing him from the leadoff position.

"This goes back to April when Matheny took Fowler out of the leadoff spot...A veteran who's won a World Series...you (Matheny) can't have a five-minute conversation in the office? You let him know over text message?"

Miklasz thinks that Matheny might be looking for work if the Cardinals don't find a way to make the playoffs.

"This is just embarrassing. I got a feeling at the end of the year that a dynamite is gonna hit this place. They better make the playoffs or he's out."

It's understandable for the manager to make changes to his lineup but it is a terrible look not to discuss them with their players in-person. This relationship between Fowler and the Cardinals management appear to be almost finished and it might take Matheny out of St. Louis.
