Cubs News: Power outage may affect Tuesday's doubleheader

by - Senior Editor -

Monday night's contest between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers was postponed because of heavy rain and a 'limited power outage' with right field lights and some other areas including on the third-base line.

"We were having issues with the right-field lights this evening," Cubs spokesman Julian Green said via 670 The Score. "Unfortunately, we were not able to get them fully operational. There appears to be a limited power outage that impacted the right field-lights operation. We can't play baseball without a full bank of lights in a ballpark. We were also dealing with a pretty heavy storm system, which was in the area, which we were projecting for the next couple of hours."

The Cubs hoped to work on the lights throughout the night and get them functional by the time both games roll around Tuesday.

"We’re actively working on this and plan to have the ball park fully operational by tomorrow."

Both teams would like to get this three-game set in while at Wrigley because this is the only series scheduled between the two teams all season. The teams only have two mutual off days the rest of the season.

Monday was the Cubs seventh postponement which is the most postponed since 1986 according to Ed Hartig.

Update: Lights are now working at Wrigley Field:
