Report: Cubs got 'nowhere' in Kris Bryant extension talks |

Kris Bryant is probably the face of baseball as he led the Cubs as they won the World Series and also took home the National League MVP award in his second season in the big leagues.
According to a report by Tom Verducci, the Cubs tried to extend several of their star positional players including Bryant but every one of those efforts “got nowhere.” There is still plenty of time for the Cubs and super agent Scott Boras to work out a deal with Bryant because he won't be a free agent until after the 2021 season. “It’s no different negotiating with him on Jacoby Ellsbury and all the other deals we’ve done,” Boras said via Sports Illustrated. “Theo does not settle on certain things. He offers a very limited range. You’ve got to give up an option year, a free agent year and he can move you whenever he wants to move you.” In 2016, Bryant hit .292 with 39 homers, 102 RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .385. In two seasons at the big league level, he has batted .284 with 65 homers, 201 RBIs, and .377 on-base percentage. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (2nd overall) in the 2013 MLB Draft.
