Cubs News: Rizzo on protesting students: "Their voices are gonna be heard"

by - Senior Editor -

Students across America on Wednesday were walking out of their classes to protest gun violence in schools.

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo understands the pain communities can go through with a school shooting as his former high school was the scene of a recent massacre that left 17 victims dead.

Rizzo knows that his community and the children there don't feel protected and are speaking up for reform.

"I love it," Rizzo said. "These kids, unfortunately, have grown up with nothing but school shootings. And we haven't done anything about it as a country to help. These kids don't feel safe and they're speaking up and it's amazing. That's our future. That's our youth. That's who is gonna shape our country in the next 10, 15, 20 years."

Rizzo thinks that his Parkland community will continue to reach out to be a change agent.

"Their voices are gonna be heard. And the more they continue to reach out, the more they'll be heard."
