Cubs News: Scott Boras on Arrieta: "He's a big squirrel with a lot of nuts"

One of the biggest offseason questions throughout baseball is where standout Jake Arrieta will eventually sign with.

There are several teams rumored to be in the running for Arrieta's services including the Brewers, Cardinals, Twins, Rangers, Phillies, and the Cubs.

Arrieta's super agent Scott Boras spoke with the media on Wednesday afternoon and said that the Cubs won't find a better big-game pitcher than his client in free agency.

"The Cubs can do whatever they choose to do in this free-agent market and the next one," Boras said. "There is no one with the championship-caliber numbers of Jake Arrieta in this market."

Boras then used an animal metaphor saying that Arrieta was a big squirrel with a lot of nuts.

"I said earlier in the season that while we can’t talk about nuts with the exception of squirrels and trees, I just say this: 'Jake Arrieta, he’s a big squirrel with a lot of nuts in his trees.'"

Boras finished up by saying that Chicago has the money to sign him if they wanted to because of the recent success of the ballclub.

"This isn’t the Windy City. This is the economic hurricane in Chicago of what the Cubs have done," he said.

In 2017, Arrieta had a 14-10 record with 3.53 ERA, 163 strikeouts, and 1.22 WHIP.
