WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' win in close call with Nationals

by - Senior Writer -

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the top of the sixth, the Chicago Cubs (27-17) went up 6-1 on the Washington Nationals (19-27) at Nationals Park on Sunday, and that proved to be just enough, as the Cubs barely held off the Nationals and collected a 6-5 win. As a result, Chicago took two of three from Washington in the series.

Highlighted by a solo bomb off the bat of Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs' offensive exploits included an efficient 3-for-3 effort by Albert Almora Jr. and an RBI single by Kris Bryant that ultimately proved to be the deciding hit. On the mound, Kyle Hendricks fared well for the Cubs through five innings but gave up a 3-run jack before being pulled in the sixth frame. Cubs relief did its job, though, and Hendricks received the winning decision when it was all said and done.
