CHICAGO — In a touching moment at Wrigley Field, Ashlyn Clark, a high-school senior from Iowa who is battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, met with Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester prior to Wednesday's game between the Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. Lester is a cancer survivor, and he came to know Clark because of her struggle. As a result, Lester invited Clark, a lifelong Cubs fan, to attend the game on Wednesday so that the two could meet. Lester's invitation came with one caveat, though, and it was that he had to get Clark's autograph in return.

Making the teenaged girl feel really special, Lester got Clark to sign a baseball for him, and Lester returned the favor by signing a ball for Clark. Clark walked around on the field and visited the Cubs' clubhouse and dugout before the game, with Lester leading Clark on the tour while chatting with her and her family. Clark conducted an interview with Iowa news channel WHO-DT while at the Friendly Confines and was clearly touched by Lester's kindness.
