Cubs News: Lester receives the Warren Spahn Award

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs won their first World Series since 1908 and one of the main reasons was workhorse veteran pitcher Jon Lester's leadership in winning his third World Series title.

Lester was awarded the Warren Spahn Award at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday night for being MLB's top left-handed pitcher for the 2016 season.

“I think going out and playing when you already have a championship is a lot easier than when you don't,” Lester said to the audience. “I think it's scary for opposing guys to worry about Kris Bryant, Rizzo and all of these guys for the next however many years. It should be fun.”

Lester had the second-lowest ERA in the league this past season at 2.44 and posted a quality start in all of his 15 starts at Wrigley Field this season. In 2016, Lester was 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA with 190 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP.
