Cubs News: Lester responds to critics of him missing White House visit

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs ace Jon Lester was noticeably absent with the World Champion Chicago Cubs visited the White House on Monday afternoon.

Lester was getting some heat on Twitter for missing the event and he posted that his absence had nothing to do with politics.

“For those of you so quick to jump to conclusions, we had a death in the family and the funeral was yesterday,” Lester wrote on Twitter. “Absolutely nothing political.”

Lester had the second-lowest ERA in the league this past season at 2.44 and posted a quality start in all of his 15 starts at Wrigley Field this season. In 2016, Lester was 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA with 190 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP.

Jake Arrieta, John Lackey, and Hector Rondon were also absent at the event.
