Report: Yankees want Schwarber for Miller

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs President Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer have reportedly been discussing potential trades for relief help before the trade deadline on August 1.

Scouts from the Cubs watched Yankees relievers Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman back in the second week of June and returned to Yankee stadium to get another look over the weekend according to the New York Post.

ESPN senior writer Buster Olney has some inside information that the Yankees still want Kyle Schwarber and will simply move on from the Cubs without him.

"One evaluator with knowledge of the Yankees' interest fully expects that the team will tell the Cubs that if they want Miller, they will have to part with young hitter Kyle Schwarber -- and if the Cubs say no, the Yankees can simply move on to conversations with other contenders who are interested in the left-hander," Olney said.

Miller is having a fantastic year with a 1.34 ERA with seven saves, 63 strikeouts, and a 0.62 WHIP. For his career, he has a 4.41 ERA with 44 saves, 653 strikeouts, and a 1.42 WHIP. He is under contract for the next two seasons, for $9 million annually.

The Yankees know they have one of the top relievers in a sellers market and will try to get some monster trade pieces back in return.
