Cubs News: Craig Kimbrel dominates in possible final minor-league tuneup |
DES MOINES, Iowa — In what might have been his final minor-league tuneup before being called up to the Chicago Cubs, closer Craig Kimbrel continued his Triple-A dominance with the Iowa Cubs by going three up, three down in the ninth frame on Tuesday. Capping off Iowa's 5-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers, Kimbrel sat the Storm Chasers down in order in the last inning.
Needing just 16 pitches to record three outs, Kimbrel appeared ready to resume his big-league career in his fourth outing with Iowa. Striking out two of the three batters he faced, Kimbrel had great command of his pitches in what could have served as his final outing for Triple-A's Cubs. A promotion to MLB's Cubs should be right around the corner for Kimbrel, with a call-up later this week seeming very likely at this point. Happened to be in Des Moines for business and got to see Craig Kimbrel pitch from a $14 seat basically on the field. AAA ball! pic.twitter.com/VYeLuiwRZZ Craig Kimbrel's 4th outing with Iowa
