Kyle Hendricks is inching closer to making his long-awaited return to the Chicago Cubs' starting rotation. The veteran right-handed pitcher recently completed a successful Minor League rehab outing for Triple-A Iowa, putting him on track for a potential comeback in the coming week. In his latest rehab start, Hendricks showcased his skills by allowing just one run over six innings while recording six strikeouts and issuing no walks. The impressive performance left Cubs manager David Ross feeling optimistic about Hendricks' progress. "We'll try to look at a slot where we might be able to line him up in the rotation, given everything is healthy," Ross said on Sunday. "I don't know the next step, but we'd like to get him back if everything went well. I know that line was pretty darn good. We'll see how he feels. And see how many days' rest he may need. We're going to need a starter coming up here soon." In his most recent three outings, Hendricks surrendered only three runs across 16 innings, demonstrating his effectiveness on the mound. He showcased his command by amassing 14 strikeouts against just two walks, while opponents managed a meager .232 batting average against him. While the Cubs have managed to stay afloat without Hendricks, his return would provide stability and experience to their pitching corps.
