Cubs News: Kris Bryant injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant left Sunday's loss against the St. Louis Cardinals falling after trying to beat out a inning-ending double play.

Bryant slipped on the first-base bag and rolled his right ankle before falling to the ground in obvious pain. Light rainfall at Wrigley Field resulted in the base being wet, which caused Bryant's tumble.

On Tuesday, ESPN reporter Jesse Rogers reports that he is hearing that the injury is a 'moderate Grade 2 sprain' on his right ankle.

The injury is very similar to what Anthony Rizzo has had to endure.

This is actually good news if the report is right because there shouldn't be any long-term issues with the injury. It could have been much worse if the injury had to do with any knee problems.

For the season, Bryant hit .282 with 31 homers.
