Cubs sign righty reliever |
The Chicago Cubs have made several moves to reinforce their bullpen for the 2018 season and it appears that they have just secured another signing.
Former Texas Rangers pitcher Anthony Bass announced the Cubs news on his Twitter account. “EXCITED to officially announce that I’ll be heading north to the Windy City in 2018 to help bring another championship to the @Cubs historic franchise," Bass posted. #FlytheW” No word yet if this is a minor-league signing or if this is a deal with the major league ballclub. It is most likely for a deal at Triple-A to add depth in case there is a need for him at some point in the season at the majors. In 2017, he pitched in two games totaling 5.2 innings pitched with a strikeout. He has a two-seam fastball that averages 92 MPH. For his MLB career, the 30-year old has 131 appearances with a 5-9 record and a 4.69 ERA. He has had stints with the Rangers, Astros, Padres, and in Japan for the Nippon Ham Fighters. He was formerly a fifth-round draft pick (165th overall) by the San Diego Padres in 2008.
