Maddon:

Maddon: "That's one of my least favorite games as Cubs manager"

It was a historically bad offensive game for the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds had a 5-4 walk-off win, but it was the Cubs' offense that was partly to blame as they went a dismal 1-16 with runners in scoring position. According to ESPN Stats & Info, that is the worst any major league team has done in a game this season. The funny part of the one hit with runners in scoring position is that is what done by pitcher Kyle Hendricks who laced a double to centerfield.

Maddon spoke to the media following the terrible loss and said the following:

"We had that game so many other ways before that (walk-off walk given up by Justin Wilson)," Maddon said to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Yesterday you win so you aren’t as concerned about runners left in scoring position. Today you don’t win a game and it’s an equal number. That’s what that game was all about."

Maddon added that it was one of the worst games he has witnessed as a manager with the Cubs.

"It was not a good game. That’s one of my least favorite games as Cubs manager."

Fortunately for Maddon and the Cubs, they will be able to forget about this game quick as the second game of the doubleheader will begin in less than two hours.

Cubs will have Jose Quintana on the mound (4-3, 5.23 ERA) against righty Sal Romano (2-4, 4.84 ERA).
