Six Cubs players in Top 100 player rankings

by - Senior Editor -

The spring training opener for the Cubs will be on Friday as the team is filled with talented young players at almost every position.

MLB Network released their Top 100 players in the majors and an impressive six Cubs players were included with No. 8 Kris Bryant, No. 23 Anthony Rizzo, No. 58 Willson Contreras, No. 66 Kyle Hendricks, No. 67 Yu Darvish, and No. 95 Kyle Schwarber.

This is a pretty special group and the rankings even left out standout pitchers Jon Lester and Jose Quintana that could have easily been included in the list and nobody would have second guessed it. In the 2019 version of these rankings, several young Cubs players could make a case in the Top 100 with breakthrough seasons with Javier Baez, Addison Russell, and/or Ian Happ.

It's amazing that Schwarber is ranked as a top 100 player despite being demoted to the minors for a short stint last season. Once he gets it all together, Schwarber should have a really special season in 2018.

SI.com also released their Top 100 player rankings and an even more impressive seven Cubs players were also included with No. 3 Kris Bryant, No. 23 Anthony Rizzo, No. 53 Yu Darvish, No. 70 Jon Lester, No. 72 Kyle Hendricks, No. 80 Jose Quintana, and No. 91 Willson Contreras.
