Cubs second baseman
Javier Baez was named to his first All-Star game as the starting second baseman during an ESPN announcement show on Sunday night.
Baez had a video message to all the Cubs fans that helped him make the prestigious All-Star team. "Hey there. This is Javy Baez," he said. "I really excited to be named to the All-Star game. Thank you to all the fans that voted for me." Baez was asked if he would like to compete in the home run derby contest. "If I got the opportunity, I would probably do it because it's my first All-Star Game," Baez said via 670 The Score. "We'll see. We'll see. I haven't heard anything about it, but sure, I'd love to." For the season, he is batting .294 with 17 homers, .893 OPS, and 65 RBI (2nd in the NL). Way to show up!
