WATCH: Highlights of offensive duel between Cubs and Padres, including Rizzo's clutch single

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — In the final meeting of the regular season between the Chicago Cubs (64-47) and the San Diego Padres (44-70), the Padres outpaced the Cubs at the plate and tallied a 10-6 victory to close out the series at Wrigley Field. The Cubs put up a valiant fight at the dish, including a pivotal pinch-hit single by Anthony Rizzo that capped off a four-run comeback for the Cubs in the seventh inning, but the Padres proved to be too much at the plate for Cubs pitching to handle.

Cubs second baseman Javier Baez established a new career high in home runs by swatting his 24th dinger of the season on the afternoon, but the story of the game was Padres hitting. Amassing 15 hits and five walks, the Padres' offense dominated Cubs pitching from beginning to end. The four-game series ended in a split, but Chicago won the seven-game season series over San Diego 5-2.
