Agent updates Russell's offseason with Cubs

by - Senior Editor -

The relationship might not be over between the Cubs and Addison Russell.

Super-agent Scott Boras spoke with the media on Wednesday night and said he expects his client Russell to be playing with the Cubs in 2019.

“We’re communicating closely with the Cubs and Addison is working on his therapy,” he said via the Chicago Tribune. “And going forward the team is clearly in line and directly involved with Addison, and I have no expectation otherwise.

“I have not been told otherwise.”

Boras went on talking how Russell is getting help and moving forward.

"Addison is getting therapy. Addison is growing and understanding the responsibilities of his team, his league, his city. The learning curve of this is good for everybody. It’s been really, really good for Addison going forward."

Russell is projected to earn around $4.3 million with arbitration in 2019.

The 24-year old has been suspended 40-games without pay, retroactive to September 21 for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence Policy. He will be available to play around May 1 next season.

In 2018, he hit .250 with five homers and 38 RBIs in 130 games.
