Cubs News: Ben Zobrist leaves game with injury

by - Senior Editor -

Ben Zobrist has been having a terrific 2018 season with the Chicago Cubs.

However, on Tuesday night, the 37-year old left the game in the fifth inning with left hip tightness according to Cubs officials.

He was taken out of the game as a precaution and team doctors are checking him out. The injury started before the game started and he tried to play through it. Albert Almora Jr. came into the game at centerfield and Ian Happ moved to left field with Zobrist out of the ballgame.

This is obviously not good news for the Cubs as 'Zo' was one of the few consistent and reliable bats in the lineup since the All-Star break.

For the game, he was batting 1-for-1 with an impressive RBI double and a walk.

He has had a bounce-back 2018 season batting .311 with 8 homers, 53 runs, and 43 RBIs and currently second on the team in WAR.

Maddon said during post-game interviews that Zobrist was feeling better by the end of the game and is optimistic he can play Wednesday.
