Cubs lineup vs. Nationals, Contreras to leadoff

The Chicago Cubs (38-37) will battle the Washington Nationals at 6:05 p.m. CDT on Monday night televised on CSN Chicago and MLB Network. Righty Eddie Butler will take the mound for the defending World Champions with a 3-2 record with 4.19 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

The Nationals will have lefty starter Gio Gonzalez on the mound with his 7-1 record in 15 starts with 2.96 ERA and 87 strikeouts.

Young catcher Willson Contreras will get his first ever start leading off at the big-league level. The average of the players starting tonight for the Cubs is only 24 years old and the elder statesman is first baseman Anthony Rizzo at 27 years of age.

In injury news, Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward is on the disabled list with a hand abrasion and Ben Zobrist is still out with his wrist injury and currently on the 10-day disabled list. Zobrist stayed back in Chicago to do rehab before being activated by the Cubs soon.

The Cubs are currently still in second place in the National League Central (1.5 GB) behind the Milwaukee Brewers.
