Cubs push back workouts again with COVID-19 testing delays |
COVID-19 takes priority over all things related to baseball.
The Chicago Cubs had to push back Friday's workout because of COVID-19 testing delays from Tuesday. Cubs manager David Ross told the media on Friday that they are just being precautions as they await the results from MLB's lab in Utah. "We just pushed some things back to make sure everybody's in a good place," he said. "Still no report of any positive tests to announce, so things are good." Ross added the following positive news about testing. Things have gone much smoother as MLB has gotten things in order on their end and got all the facilities they're using online, and everything kind of moving a little bit smoother," he said. "Things are already moving smoother, and I would believe that's gonna continue." It's a little unnerving that they are still waiting on Tuesday's test and this is the second delay in the first week of testing for the Cubs. Hopefully, it will be much faster next week. Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein appears happy with the progress of the testing. "I think the testing program has made big strides, even over the last week." The Cubs still have not had a positive coronavirus test reported, David Ross said. Kyle Ryan has arrived in Chicago and tested. He will report to camp if those results come back negative. Theo Epstein says on ESPN1000 that the tests are now back, and all are negative.
He says the early hiccups/growing pains were expected, and MLB/MLBPA made adjustments. Sounds like he feels good about improvements so far.
