Cubs reinstate RHP after 80-game suspension for PEDs

by -

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today reinstated right-handed pitcher Oscar De La Cruz off of the restricted list. Right-handed pitcher Tony Barnette has been returned from rehab assignment and transferred to the 60-day injured list.

De La Cruz, 24, has made three starts as part of a rehab assignment with Myrtle Beach this season, going 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA (2 ER/15.0 IP). Today’s activation from the restricted list and return to the 40-man roster marks the completion of his 80-game suspension, which was handed down by Major League Baseball last July 6.

Barnette, 35, was placed on the injured list on Opening Day (retroactive to March 25) with right shoulder inflammation. He had made four rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa, posting no record and an 8.10 ERA (3 ER/3.1 IP).
