Cubs tied for second in MLB with five All-Star finalists

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — The finalists to start in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game were announced on Sunday, and the Chicago Cubs are tied for second in the majors with five finalists. Only the Houston Astros have more with seven finalists. The top three vote-getters at each position — excluding pitcher — in each league make up the finalists.

For the Cubs, third baseman Kris Bryant is currently leading the way as the National League third baseman with the most votes. Although Bryant has played more games in right field than he has at third base this season, he is listed as a third baseman on the All-Star ballot.

The Cubs' other finalists are shortstop Javier Baez, catcher Willson Contreras, left fielder Joc Pederson and first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Baez is in second place among NL shortstops, while Contreras and Rizzo are both in third place in the NL at their respective positions. As for Pederson, he is in eighth place among NL outfielders.

The starters for the 2021 Midsummer Classic, which will take place at Coors Field in Denver on Tuesday, July 13, will be announced on Thursday, July 1, at 8 p.m. CDT. The full rosters will be revealed on Sunday, July 4, at 4:30 p.m. CDT. In addition to the Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays also have five finalists.
