Cubs News: Daniel Descalso injures shoulder

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have suddenly hit the injury bug with 15 days to go until Opening Day.

Veteran second baseman Daniel Descalso jammed his left shoulder during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He currently has no timetable for his return and will not be allowed to hit in the near future.

During the same ballgame, reliever Pedro Strop had some hamstring issues that have forced him off the diamond for a few weeks.

The Cubs still have several players including Ben Zobrist, David Bote, and Ian Happ that can play second base in case Descalso's injury forces him on the DL to start the season.

Descalso batted .238 with 13 homers and 57 RBIs in 2018. He was signed by the Cubs in the offseason to a two-year, $5 million contract for his veteran leadership and his versatility.
