Cubs News: David Ross updates Kris Bryant's injury status

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game with left ring finger and left wrist soreness after a sliding attempt on a catch in the outfield in the fifth inning on Wednesday.

Cubs manager David Ross spoke with the media Friday and said that Bryant was a little stiff today.

"Doing good, little stiff this morning when he woke up, he took some swings after the game yesterday, and there were some positives in that," he said. "Then waking up this morning, shot me a text still a little stiff. I didn't know how was going to go with fielding ground balls and in some of the things that he needed to do today."

Ross wants to make sure he doesn't rush back any of his players when they are not ready for action.

"Again, going back to the same things I said about Kyle Schwarber with the knee that I want to take the hesitation out of the players because it can really create bad habits in just one game where you're thinking about how your hand or your knee or, you know, a small sprain or bruise or something that may be bothering you," he said. "So I just want to take that off his plate, give him another day to get treatment, see how he feels."

Bryant could get an opportunity to hit tonight.

"He'll be available off the bench as long as everything goes fine in his pre-game stuff. And I'll continue to get feedback from him. But I don't think it's a huge concern."

This is as good of a time to give him a break as any as the Cubs are rolling with a 13-3 record and back home at Wrigley Field for a while.

Bryant is hitting .196 with two homers and a .706 OPS in 12 games.
