It was expected but Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward decided to not opt-out of his contract with the North Siders this week.
Heyward had an opt-out clause in his eight-year, $184 million mega-contract that will still pay him $106 million the next five seasons for an average of over 21 million per season.
In 2018, Heyward hit .270 with eight homers and 58 RBIs in 127 games.
Interestingly, if Heyward gets to 550 at-bats next season, it will activate another opt-clause opportunity in his contract. What a great contract put together by his agent and signed by Heyward.
Hopefully, Heyward will continue to improve his offensive skills as we all know he is a talented defender and well-liked in the clubhouse.
