Cubs News: Javy Baez on his slump: "I'm not trying to suck"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have had a rough time of it of late with their offense.

One of their main hitters in the veteran lineup is Javy Baez and he is currently in a slump going only 9-for-69 at Wrigley Field this season.

Baez spoke to the media following Saturday's disappointing loss to the rival White Sox.

"I'm not trying to suck, he said. "I'm not trying to struggle or anything. I am just trying to get better every day, learn something every day. I am just going to come back the next day and work hard and try to learn something better."

Baez said without the crowds, it is a little different for him and the rest of the players.

"I get motivated from my fans," he said. "It's really weird, to be honest. It's not an excuse, because it's the same for every team, but everybody's different. Some of us like them; some don't like having fans. We got to deal with it and play as a team and just try to win."

Baez thinks that he is close to being back offensively.

"Really close," he said. "I've been feeling good these last two or three games."

For the season, Baez is batting .198 with three homers and 10 RBI.

"Guys are still trying to get going," David Ross said Saturday. "I think the at-bats are there. I think we are just not there right now."
