Cubs News: Joe Maddon coaching update

by - Senior Editor -

Many national media pundits have already debated on the job status of Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon after his team's early dismissal in the 2018 playoffs.

However, multiple reports have confirmed that Maddon will be back for the 2019 season.

He has one more year left on his five-year, $25 million contracts as it appears that Cubs management will play out next season before deciding if they want to offer an extension. He will make $6 million next season.

"It is disappointing because our anticipation or expectation is to play the last game of the year and win it," manager Joe Maddon said moments after the loss. "It's just that this year we had a lot of things go awry."

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein said the following on Tuesday about Maddon's job status.

"Joe's status remains unchanged," he said. "He's the manager of this team and I'm very happy of that."

Veteran workhorse Jon Lester thought that Maddon did as good as expected this season.

"I don't think anything Joe could've done any differently this year," Lester said. "I don't think there's anything our front office could've done differently.

Cubs president Theo Epstein will hold a press conference later today talking about Maddon and his end of year thoughts.Cubs News: Joe Maddon coaching update

Maddon has led the ballclub to four straight postseason appearances.
