Cubs News: Kris Bryant injury update |
CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs third baseman
Kris Bryant left Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals after grounding into an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the third. Bryant slipped on the first-base bag and rolled his right ankle before falling to the ground in obvious pain. Light rainfall at Wrigley Field resulted in the base being wet, which caused Bryant's tumble.
After being helped to the dugout, Bryant, who has also been battling a right-knee injury, was removed from the game and replaced at third base by Ian Happ. The Cubs later announced that X-rays came back negative on Bryant's ankle, and the former National League MVP was officially diagnosed with nothing more than an ankle sprain. There is no word at this time regarding the impact that the fall had on Bryant's knee. Update: Joe Maddon said following the game that Kris Bryant will have an MRI on Monday.
