LOOK: Baez takes bubble-gum bath after hitting walk-off base knock |
For the second time in his illustrious career, Chicago Cubs superstar
Javier Baez tallied a walk-off RBI with the Cubs taking on the Philadelphia Phillies at the Friendly Confines on Tuesday night. Making a surprise pinch-hit appearance while dealing with a heel injury that kept him out of Monday's contest, Baez came through with the game tied and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth by notching a game-winning single that handed the Cubs a 3-2 win over the Phillies.
Our 5th walk-off win of the season and the 2nd career walk-off RBI for @javy23baez!#EverybodyIn pic.twitter.com/mAIfk2YRqt Bringing new meaning to the term "bubble bath," a couple of Baez's teammates decided to modify the typical walk-off celebration involving a Gatorade shower by giving "Javy" a bubble-gum bath instead. After deluging Baez with a cooler's worth of ice, the players skipped the Gatorade altogether and dumped a bucket of bubble gum out over Baez's head. Symbolic in nature, the unorthodox celebration was relished by Baez, who is an ardent gum chewer. Having already won five games via walk-offs this season, the Cubs are clearly searching for new ideas pertaining to walk-off festivities, and the highly inventive bubble-gum bath is a great start.
