REPORT: Ben Zobrist expected to arrive in Chicago on Friday

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — NBC Sports Chicago analyst David Kaplan tweeted out on Thursday night that sources indicated to him that veteran Cubs utility man Ben Zobrist is expected to arrive in Chicago on Friday. Zobrist has been on the restricted list since May because of personal issues involving his divorce, and Kaplan reported that Zobrist's leave of absence could be coming to an end.

Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein previously said that Zobrist would complete a thorough rehab stint in the minor leagues before rejoining the Cubs. According to Kaplan's sources, Zobrist will touch base with the Cubs before beginning his rehab process with the Single-A South Bend Cubs. Kaplan also said that the process as a whole is still "fluid," which is to be expected since Zobrist has until August 31 to be taken off the restricted list in order to become postseason eligible.
