The Chicago Cubs announced on Monday that they did not tender a contract to controversial infielder Addison Russell making him a free agent.
Twitter was abuzz with the news and was very opinionated about it.

Addison Russell has been non-tendered. The Chicago Cubs have defeated domestic abuse. pic.twitter.com/pEXYvRoSFc

So long Addison Russell and good riddance. I don't care what jersey you wear, if you're a woman abuser, you're dead to me. Good luck finding another city willing to accept an abusive asshole on the downside of his career like you. @Cubs #GoCubsGo pic.twitter.com/cvyvnAoPXt

We cheered for him once, can't change that. But the memory sure is soured. #AddisonRussell@Cubs #GoCubsGo pic.twitter.com/Cq8x8gBvMx

Trade proposal: #Cubs send Addison Russell to the Astros so that they have a brand new trash can to bang on when they're expecting a curveball.

Now that it's probably over, I think we can safely say that the Cubs' handling of the Addison Russell situation will live on as a permanent example of what a front office and manager should *not* do or say.

Just from a pure baseball perspective Addison Russell represents a great buy-low opportunity for any MLB team that wants to overtly and gratuitously insult its fan base. Every team looking to show its fans how shitty and cynical it is would benefit from his services.

It's too bad he wasn't dealt to another team, long ago.#Cubs https://t.co/szUPPwS8rI
