WATCH: Almora fired up after pulling off amazing web gem

by - Senior Writer -

Albert Almora Jr. made a habit out of pulling off incredible catches in center field for the Chicago Cubs last season. In fact, if he had started regularly, Almora would have almost certainly been a Gold Glove Award recipient. Now the official starting center fielder for the Cubs, Almora kicked off his campaign to earn a Gold Glove with his first web gem of the season on Monday.

In the first inning of the Cubs' matchup with the Miami Marlins, Almora made a incredible catch on the warning track to rob leadoff hitter Curtis Granderson of an extra-base hit. After keeping track of the trajectory of the fly ball while racing toward the wall, Almora was able to stretch out to secure the catch before tumbling to the dirt. Almora maintained control of the baseball, even while sliding into the wall, and was fired up after completing the spectacular snag.
