WATCH: 'CarGo' collects his first hit with Cubs |
Making his Chicago Cubs debut on Monday afternoon, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez picked up first hit as a North Sider on a 2-out single. The veteran, who was only just inked to a minor-league deal by the Cubs late last week, was called up from Triple-A on Monday morning and started in right field for the Cubs' Monday matchup at Wrigley Field against the Los Angeles Angels.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, "CarGo" smacked a single to right field that advanced shortstop Javier Baez from first to third with two outs. Unfortunately, catcher Willson Contreras grounded out to end the inning after that, but Gonzalez did his part with a clutch base knock that incited a roar from the appreciative Cubs faithful in attendance.
