WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' 2-1 win over Astros

by - Senior Writer -

HOUSTON, Texas — Of course, the heart-wrenching incident surrounding a foul ball hit by Chicago Cubs (31-23) center fielder Albert Almora Jr. that struck a little girl in the stands rightfully drew attention away from the baseball being played at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday. However, in typical sporting fashion, the game carried on, even after the awful scene played out in the top of the fourth, and the interleague contest culminated in the Cubs defeating the Houston Astros (37-20) 2-1.

By winning the series finale, the Cubs avoided being swept and also ended a 3-game losing streak. Left fielder Kyle Schwarber led off the game with a home run, and, a few innings later, Kris Bryant tabbed a solo jack of his own. Bryant returned to the lineup following a 2-game injury layoff and served as the designated hitter. On the mound, starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks dominated in eight innings of work for the Cubs and accrued the winning decision for his efforts.
