by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Led by shortstop Javier Baez, the Chicago Cubs (58-51) defeated the Milwaukee Brewers (57-54) 6-2 in the series opener of the 3-game set at Wrigley Field on Friday. Baez went 3-for-5 with a 2-run home run and a pair of doubles and tabbed two runs scored and three RBI. His go-ahead jack in the third inning proved to be the winning hit.

In addition to Baez going yard, Cubs leadoff man Jason Heyward started off the bottom of the first with a solo bomb. On the mound, starting hurler Jose Quintana fared well in his six innings pitched for the Cubs. Reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich of the Brewers was held in check, as he went 0-for-4, thus ending his career-high 19-game hitting streak.
