WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' 8-1 beatdown of Angels |
CHICAGO, Ill. — After finding themselves bogged down in an offensive quagmire as of late, the Chicago Cubs (32-26) experienced a significant rejuvenation at the plate in their game against the Los Angeles Angels (29-31) on Monday. With the Angels in town to make up an April rainout, the Cubs outscored the Halos 7-1 from the bottom of the sixth onward en route to collecting an 8-1 rout at Wrigley Field.
Shortstop Javier Baez led the charge for the Cubs, as he tallied three RBI in a 2-for-4 hitting performance that included his 14th home run of the season. The Cubs, who were braced by a solid 7-inning outing from starting pitcher Jon Lester, took control of the contest with a 5-run sixth inning and went on to win comfortably. With the victory, the Cubs took two of three from the Angels in the interrupted series.
