WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' series-ending victory over Padres

by - Senior Writer -

SAN DIEGO — Chicago Cubs (78-68) pitcher Yu Darvish produced one of the most dominant starts of his Cubs tenure on Thursday, with the right-hander striking out a season-high 14 batters over the course of his six scoreless innings of work. In the process, Darvish reached the 200-strikeout mark on the season for the fourth time in his career.

The Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres (68-78) 4-1 in the finale of the 4-game series at Petco Park, thus resulting in a series split. A sacrifice fly by Kris Bryant, a 2-run single by Ian Happ and an RBI fielder's choice by Ben Zobrist provided the Cubs with their four runs. After capping off a 3-5 road trip with a much-needed win, the Cubs will return to the Friendly Confines for a 10-game homestand.
